Leading cattle genetics supplier Genus Breeding have secured a top quality Red Aberdeen-Angus bull, Mosshall Red Pharaoh M172, for their stud, the first time the company has purchased a red Angus bull.
Red Pharaoh M172, a son of Te Mania Red Label Z1023 is out of one of the Mosshall herd’s foundation females, Kincardine Castle Red Pebble J713 and carries a wealth of performance figures to back up his looks and pedigree.
Bred by West Lothian-based husband and wife George and Nikki Taylor Red Pharaoh M172 is the first bull to be sold from the herd which was founded in 2011 and was also the first calf born under the Mosshall prefix.
Commenting on the purchase of Red Pharaoh Genus Breeding’s beef specialist Arwel Owen said the addition of red Aberdeen-Angus genetics to the company’s bull portfolio was an exciting expansion of its offering.
“The popularity of red Angus genetics is growing the world over and Red Pharaoh combines some great breeding from both sides of the globe, backing up physical presence and conformation with excellent locomotion and performance figures to match.
“He will suit both pedigree and commercial breeders alike and semen has already been collected with the first export order due to despatch to Portugal in the next few weeks. There has also been significant interest from other parts of the world, including South America.”
Breeder, George Taylor said the sale backed the couple’s decision to concentrate on Red Angus genetics. “To have only started in the breed less than three years ago and to have already sold a bull in to a leading AI stud is a fantastic start for us.
“We look forward to seeing how Red Pharaoh’s progeny perform both here and overseas,” he added.
